Entry #10 My summer goals

Summer is right around the corner and I am sure I'm not the only one who wants these next two weeks to fly by!  Working hard for the next two weeks for finals but more the best part, SUMMER BREAK right after!

I have a few things I want to accomplish this summer, first things first.. my driver's license!  I recently got my permit so I could talk driving classes!  It is gonna be much more beneficial for me plus, I don't have to take an actual driver's test, it's basically a checklist of skills I have to master to get my license!

After I get my license I plan on taking two road trips, one to Cali and one to Texas!
California is where my girlfriends and I are going to have our summer getaway but I am also going to take a class at Millennium Dance Complex!

This is literally my dream to be, to attend a class here and get to meet some of the most amazing dancers and choreographers.  Dancing is truly something that can always make me feel better, just couldn't imagine the excitement in a place like this!

And of course, I want to take a road trip to Austin, Texas.  I am honestly going to Austin to see my cousins, they mean the absolute world to me.  If I had to pick my all time favorite people to be with, it would be them!  I can't stand that I used to see them every single day to now maybe three times a year.  Plus, Austin is a super fun and beautiful place and if you haven't been I recommend!  Hope you all have a great summer vacation, hopefully I will too!

Sincerely,
Megan :)

Entry #9 Happy Easter!

I remember always waking up super early on Easter, Christmas or any holiday that has once made you believe this specific person brought you gifts.

I stopped believing in the Easter Bunny when I was about in third grade, merely an accident but I was only a tiny bit disappointed.  I was grabbing my mom's phone for her out of her car and I accidently dropped it in the back seat.  When I went to the backseat to grab it, I saw two bags full of candy, one with my name and one with my brother's name.

Of course you know I was about eight years old, no one was watching so I toke a peek, and it had our Easter baskets inside.

Later that day I found out the Easter bunny was not real, I wasn't sad but I wasn't thrilled either.  But as the years go on I didn't even mind if I didn't get anything, I just got used to family always hanging out for the day and eating loads of food and spending time together.  Speaking of which, I need to get back to egg hunting!  I hope you all have a great Easter Sunday!

Sincerely,
Megan

Entry #8 Would Love Some Actual Sleep

Recently, I have had bag cases of huge dark circles under my eyes, been in a grumpy mood and most of all... I am always tired.  Normally I am good with waking up at a desired time, but lately the time has been pushed back quite a bit.

I have been trying to get some serious research in because I don't want it to start affecting me at school.  I don't feel as focused as I usually am in class and it's almost difficult for me to pay attention.  I found a few tips on Healthy Sleep that I considered trying

One of the tips was to make my room a "sleep-inducing environment".  To do that I put a black out shade over my window so my room stays nice and cool, and then at night I make sure all lights are off and I turn my fan on.  My room has felt much more nice and relaxing to be in ever since, it also helps me take small power naps!

Another thing I found interesting was to be not be a "Clock Watcher".

I now realized constantly checking my phone and seeing what time it is, is not going to actually help me fall asleep.  Resting, just closing my eyes and not focusing on the time probably could also help me.  Another way to possibly help me is to go to bed when I know I am truly tired.

I always try to go to sleep at a certain time every night, rather if I am tired or not.  I am going to try to just wait until I know I am about to fall asleep, maybe it will help me a little bit better.  If any of you are having trouble sleeping and need something new to try, try some of the tips in the link.

You know what they say, goodnight, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

                                                                             Megan

Entry #7 The Industrial Farming Impact

As the years have gone by, we use technology more then we realize.  From something as simple as making a phone call, to even making the food we buy in our average grocery stores.  Even though it is a faster, cheaper way of making a product, does it come with good quality to the consumers and the environment?

After reading this article, it pointed out some factors that I recognized (from watching Fresh) and other factors that I had no idea about.  In this article called "Hidden Costs of Industrial Agriculture", it explains what happens from the health and safety of the consumers taking in the products to what could happen to actual farm lands and more!

For example,  the article states how "Pesticide Toxicity" has been associated with "acute poisoning and chronic illness".  Industrial farms are using chemicals and antibiotics on their crops and animals, thinking it is going to help make their products.  Using these materials, the industrial farmers think it is going to help, but at the end of it all, it ends up costing more.

Between the extra medical bills to get the antibiotics and getting the pesticides, is it overall worth the make of the product?  Just one of the few major points on today's version of "fresh food".

                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                          Megan

Entry #5 Fresh made Me Think

After watching the documentary Fresh , I can strongly say that I now have a better understanding of where the food you are currently could come from.  Observing this documentary gave me more knowledge about food and the process of making it, good versus bad.

Watching this film, the farmers that actually take good care of their animals and get the produce they need actually so a much better performance than some industrialized farm.  Real farmers like these they treat the animals equal to them, they don't keep them in cramped cages forced to share with other animals and put antibiotics in their bodies.

I could not imagine being in the animals position, simply just cruel!  Plus the animal that are cramped in those cages easily get sick and gain diseases, how are you supposed to get fresh produce from those helpless creatures?  This video created awareness that people need to watch what products they buy and help end the torture to animals!

It's better to let the animals be in their natural habitat and treat them with respect, that way everyone wins!  The animals can live happy and healthy lives and we can get REAL fresh produce.
Thanks for Ready!

Sincerely,
Megan :)

Entry #4 Appreciation Dog Blog

This post might be a quick one, but I just wanted to give a quick thank you to my favorite boys in the whole world, my dogs Sam and PD!

Sam is about ten now and he looks like he has barely aged anything!  I remember getting him right before high school, I was too excited to bring him home!  This is Sam in the picture below, he is a black Labrador retriever, super nice and really sweet and god with everybody.

PD in the picture below is a blonde Labrador retriever, we actually got him from North Dakota when my dad flew out there! PD is about seven years old and my dad trains with him every few days as an Arizona Search Dog!  Arizona Search Dogs is an organization (non-profit) that trains Canines as Search Specialists.  You can also go to their website and look at some of their accomplishments.

These two dogs can always help look at the world a little more excitedly because they always being nothing but good spirits into my life and others around them.  They bring love, comfort and positivity to my family!  Thank you two for always putting a smile on my face!

Sincerely,
Megan :)

Entry #3 Social Media Life

It is quite strange these days how social media works, with all the "likes" and selfies and "favorites".  After listening to this audio of "Status Update", there were some things that I definitely had a reaction to and others not so much.

I never really thought about how social media could factor everyday life.  A lot of people's lives factor around social media, without it a lot of people would not be nearly as connected to the everyday factors of real life.

For example, my best friend.  Without social media no one would really know how unique and how amazing my friendship with Tiana would be.  I like to make sure the world knows of my best friend of 12 years and how much I cherish it!

The only thing that really spoke to me was that, you do not absolutely HAVE to comment or like your closest friends pictures.  I think of it as, we all do it because we want to and we want to show our friends some love.  I do not have to like and share Tiana's photos, but I do choose to since she is my best friend and she deserves the love.

Thanks for reading!!
Sincerely,
Megan :)

Entry #2 Girly Road Trip

Since as long I could remember I have always wanted to get away from the world for a weekend, just to have some fun with the girls!  About six months ago, my friends Sammi, Amanda and I decided to take that chance and go on a road trip to California!

The drive was nothing but fun and loud.  We were jamming out to old school hip hop songs and just singing the ENTIRE trip there, kind of surprised that we still had our voices after we arrived to our camp site.

We decided to stay at the campsite San Diego KOA.  We thought it would be interesting to try and camp out on our own.  The image below is what our camp site looked like.  The mornings were humid and pretty chilly but at night the weather was absolutely perfect.

During this trip we went to Coronado Beach and Mission Beach.  Coronado was relaxing and just had a blast hanging out in the California sun.  Mission Beach we were walking around, talked to some really cool people.  The stores were so cool and the area was just full of fun and excitement and positivity.  Did I mention my favorite part about this whole trip?  WE WENT TO THE ZOO!

The San Diego Zoo was amazing!  All kinds of school exhibits and of course one of my favorites is seeing the elephants!  Also got a picture with a giraffe, it toke a couple takes but close enough (Sammi, Me, and Amanda).  After going to the beaches and going to the zoo, it was a pretty great adventure, especially with my girls!  More adventures like this one will definitely be coming up soon.

Entry #1 Relam of Bloggers

A blog?  What is a blog?  Something I am not quite used to that's for sure!  A blog as people know is a website that's constantly updated with articles, stories and other neat stuff!  Quite a bit of people seemed to be really intrigued with them, I never really understood until recently.

There are some blogs that do not really seem to get a good hold of my attention.  For example, The Belmont Club is a blog where it focuses on history and it will provide links that go with whatever the post's purpose is.  Personally, I am already not a huge history fan so I would lose interest fairly quickly.

There is another blog that I really do enjoy!  This blog is known as Decor8 and it is something that is really fun to look through!  This blog talks about new trendy stuff for houses, there are some pieces for helpful tips and business tips and more!

A blog that really caught my eye was Post Secrets.  The image above is an example of what you are going to see throughout the whole website.  Basically you write a secret on one side of a post card and you can send it to the website, and no one will even know it is your secret.  I like the idea of being able to express your thoughts without putting a face to it, it keeps the reader more interested and full of curiosity.

Blogs are quite interesting to read, I might read them more often! Happy Blogging!

                                                                 Sincerely,
                                                                  Megan :)

Practice Entry :)

Hello everyone welcome to my Blog! My name is Megan Bolvin, but my really close friends and family call me Meg or Megs.  I am nineteen years old and I am going for my Bachelors Degree in Nursing!  I have my family to help me carry out this journey through college and without I wouldn't be where I am. I have my mom and dad, my older brother Tanner and two crazy but adorable dogs (Sam and PD).

The pictures of my mom and dad are from Thanksgiving and we were at our cabin in Munds Park goofing around!  The picture of my brother is when I got him off guard at his 21st birthday! I do not have any pictures of my dogs but Sam is a black Labrador and PD is a blonde Labrador.

Now that you got a tiny glimpse of my family, I guess I should talk about some of my interests!

This is a bit of a throwback from when I cheered in High School, we were messing around right before a basketball game!  I love showing school spirit and just get a crowd pumped! Dancing is also a favorite for me!  It is my way to relieve stress, if I am having a bad day or get upset dance has always been there to help out.

Thank you all for reading and I hope you all continue to check out my blog :)
                                                                 Sincerely,
                                                                   Megan
